About ↑

Meet the Halletts. Barnaby (39, six-five, senior developer, convinced it’s “a routing issue”) and his younger brother Alfie (37, six-three, senior procurement lead, wants three quotes and apologises while getting them) are in Chicago for Barnaby’s 40th: deep-dish, Italian beef, hot dogs with absolutely no ketchup, a Bulls game at the United Center, and a day trip up the north shore to see the Home Alone house.

It started as a joke between two real brothers who kept getting lost in Chicago's multi-level underground roads: Lower Wacker, Lower Lower Wacker, and signs that seemed to point nowhere at all. The joke became: what if it never ends? What if the road beneath the city is a city of its own, with its own rules, its own taxis, and its own very shady locals?

Subterranean Nightmare is that joke, told properly: every episode starts with an ordinary day out and ends somewhere much further down. The black Mustang never says a word. It doesn't need to.
